Motto for 2017

I think I will adopt this as my motto for 2017.

I have always let fear of failure, and the potential ridicule that comes with failure, define what I attempt in my life. I feel it is time to step out of this mindset.
I have recently been reading Living Courageously by Joyce Meyer and the most important one line message I have come away with is you need to 'do it afraid'. If you never do things you are afraid of, you will never do anything at all.

What do you think? Do you have a 'motto' in mind for 2017? Or something that you would really like to alter in your life or mindset?

  1. I love, love, love it Jayne. It is an terrific motto for 2017. I have had a personal motto since about 2000 and it is "In faith I will be true".

I read a terrific article last night about saying "I can't" when what we mean is "I don't want to" or "I don't know how" or "I don't believe I can." These are all easier to address than 'I can't". The first is a valid choice, the second is something we can change by learning and the third we can change by changing our beliefs. The article fleshed it out more of course.

    1. I agree. It is very easy to use the words "I can't" and attach the reasoning for why you can't to someone or something else.
I love your motto - wonderful words to live by.

  2. Love your motto for 2017, Jayne. I think we are all afraid of so many things, hence stopping us to step out of our comfort zone. I always used to say to my girls when they were growing up and they were scared of doing something "to give it a burl, you never know what may happen". I have been thinking of late that I want to live a beautiful life this year....to impart a little beauty each day, wherever I am or to whomever I meet. Have a most lovely weekend, Jayne.

    1. Most of what we are afraid of or worry about will never actually eventuate, thus why I have decided I need to stop worrying and just jump in!
Living a beautiful life sounds lovely - although I'm not sure how you could live more beautifully than you already do!

  3. I totally agree - being afraid stifles everything from creativity to challenging yourself to exploring life - so, let's all be brave and step out of the comfort zone!

    1. Yes, I have let fear take over WAY too much and it does stifle you and make you miss out on so much of life. Here's to being brave!

  5. Doing things, even when you're afraid, is an opportunity to be courageous. I guess the question to ask ourselves is how we define success. Are we only successful if the outcome is what we intended? Or are we successful if we give something a go and we learn something different than we expected? I always tell my students that we learn the most when we don't get things right. I don't think that's any different in the big wide world of life.

For me, I haven't made any resolutions, nor chosen a word. It seems both are quickly forgotten in the busyness of the year. I'm looking forward to teaching the same year levels and some of the same kids this year...AND...only working four days instead of five. And I'm looking forward to learning and growing and being courageous in the face of the inevitable challenges that will happen my way.

    1. I totally agree - success can be so many more things than just the narrow definition that society seems to call success.
Having an extra day off a week will be a wonderful blessing.

  6. So lovely Jayne.

Why are we afraid? It is usually of things that never happen.

I am hoping to be more positive this year. It is easy to sink into the negativity trap, something that I do often.

I like the way Joyce thinks. I watch her videos from time to time, for inspiration and to bring me back to reality!

    God Bless,
    xTania

    1. Absolutely - most of what we worry about never happen. I am the same; I can very easily sink into negativity and wallow there for a while! I really need to stop doing that and that is when I have a few books set aside that always give me a boost. And Joyce's videos are great for that too.
