Some Fun Girlie Sewing

My girls are too big now for all the gorgeous little girl sewing - I miss it so much! But luckily for me, Cuddlepie has been invited to a four year old girl's birthday party next weekend, so girlie sewing here I come!
I visited with the birthday girl's mum the other day and she was worried there would not be a single tea bag to make a cuppa as they are always being taken to make cups of tea in the play kitchen. Ding, first idea!

I have seen fabric tea bags around so thought to make some of those.
I used this tutorial from Handmade Frenzy, just altered it to use ribbon instead of yarn as the string.

After asking the birthday girl's mum for favourite colours, I have started to make up an apron as well. Purple and yellow were the requested colours; much to mum's relief, who just assumed it would be pink as usual!

I have used the Easy As Pie apron pattern from Bee In My Bonnet. Wow, I love Lori's blog and all her gorgeous creations. I have all her books in my pattern library, waiting to be made!
I altered the pattern in that I have not made the pocket panel but instead made a ruffle on the bottom as I know this little girl loves frilly!

Still need to add the waistband and ties but it was getting way, way too late, even for me! (Apologies for the awful photo as it was taken late at night!)
I also have a few more items planned to make up a little kitchen play set, so stay tuned and I will bring them to you in a day or two.

I am so happy to have made the effort to get out the sewing machine for the first time since we moved. And it is a bit of an effort when you need to sew on the dining table, as you cannot leave anything out. I tend to have marathon late night sewing sessions so I don't need to put the machine and all the other bits away and then fetch it all out again. But even so:
So much fun!

  1. So cute! There is finally a girl in our extended family after 5 boys spanning 15 years, so girl sewing is coming up on my radar. So. Many. Options! Thanks for sharing this.

    1. I know - I'm sorry boys, but girl sewing is much more fun. The Minecraft quilt I am working on next is just not the same! Look forward to seeing your girlie creations.

    1. Yes, many a night has hubby come stumbling out of bed, 'when are you coming to bed? it's 3am.' We all know the answer - 'just have to finish this bit.' Sometimes it just has to be done at night with no distractions.

    1. True - they would look sweet with a teacup collection in some lovely Liberty fabric. Hmmm, good idea! Thanks for visiting.
