Achievements For The Past Week, and Plans For This Week

Joining today with Porch Swing Quilts for Make-A-List Colour Monday.

It is the first day of winter here and we woke up to ice all over everything. Whirlwind, in his usual crazy rush, slipped in the ice heading out the door to school and landed flat on his backside.

Yesterday, a lovely time was spent at Crafternoon. I worked on Miss Ballerina's quilt. The boys raced off with all the other children there, and had a great time. On the way home, Whirlwind said it was the best day of his life. Oh to be six years old and so happy and easy to please!

I have been working on the garden. I want to get it all weeded and mulched, ready for some planting. Hubby mowed down all the thistles and nettles in the paddock again. We will do it a few times over their growing season, before they flower, so all the nutrients return to the soil and hopefully, no seed sets.

So this week's list is:

Garden and homestead
  • Veggie garden - continue weeding and mulching, plant out areas as completed.
  • Clean out deep litter from chicken pen to the compost and lay new straw.
  • Weed daffodil bed. (three quarters of the way!)
  • Plant new plants.
  • Sprout wheat grain for chickens.
Knitting, sewing, crafting
  • Three hours of hand quilting on Miss Ballerina's quilt.
  • Graph Minecraft quilt for Whirlwind's birthday, using this one as a guide.
Looks like the garden stole all my crafting time this week! Low achievement in this area.

Household
  • Inventory pantry items and determine use by dates. Meal plan accordingly, then keep pantry inventory up to date.
  • Write letters to my sponsor children.
  • Clean up clutter corner in our bedroom.
  • Make lemon butter as our lemon tree is bursting with lemons.

This was the first preserving/pantry book I ever bought, published in 1993. It has great recipes, including recipes for every type of curry paste you can imagine.

Also stole time from here! But the garden is starting to come along nicely. I really need it to be ready for a big spring planting.

Just look at the lovely mulched part in the front - ignore the spreading green in the background!

This week's list (with way too many carry forwards - again!)

Garden and homestead
  • Veggie garden - continue weeding and mulching, plant out areas as completed.
  • Lay new paths in veggie garden and garden bed under apple tree.
  • Source native grasses for the bed near the back porch.
  • Start seeds and plant pea seeds.
  • Sprout wheat grain for chickens.
Knitting, sewing, crafting
  • Three hours of hand quilting on Miss Ballerina's quilt.
  • Graph Minecraft quilt for Whirlwind's birthday, using this one as a guide.
Wow, this stays pretty much the same!

Household
  • Inventory pantry items and determine use by dates. Meal plan accordingly, then keep pantry inventory up to date.
  • Write letters to my sponsor children.
  • Clean up clutter corner in our bedroom.
  • Make lime pickle and lime marmalade.

Now, onto Colour Monday! This week's theme is summer sipping; what do you like to sip on in summer? For me, of course, it is more like hot chocolate in front of the fire at the moment. But it is good to reflect on other seasons than the one you are currently in.

This would what I would regularly sip in summer - homemade lemon cordial (all those lemons again!)

But had to include this one as well; even though you are not likely to see me sipping cocktails on a beach in Hawaii any time soon!

  1. Oh, I love your lemon tree. I want a lemon tree. I need a lemon tree! And your palettes are beautiful, even if you'd rather be sipping cocoa right now. I need to choose more southern hemisphere friendly themes, don't I?

    Good luck with your lists!

    1. Oh no, I love doing the lists for your lovely weather! It is actually great as when it is cold here, I can look at your summers; and when it is too swelteringly hot to even move here, I can look at your snow pictures! Perfect!
Our lemon tree is truly a trooper. It is actually snapped in half at the base of the trunk. It blew down in a storm and we propped it up, thinking that was the end of it. That was two seasons ago and it is still going strong!

  2. If it's any consolation it was the start of our English summer yesterday and we've had nothing but wind and rain. Very unseasonable even for our standards! You're so busy and so on top of things. I really don't know what is wrong with the google connect counter. Think I had best take it off! Thanks for trying though :)

    1. Soon you will be getting strawberries! Ah, but I am only showing the things I got done in the garden - I'm not showing the messy bathroom I didn't get to because I was in the garden instead!
If I was a bit more tech savvy, I might be able to help you. All I can think is there is something in your Google settings?

  4. Don't you just love marking off something from the "To Do" list? :) Sometimes I add little things to my list just so I can mark it off....it feels rewarding.

How fun to have lemon trees! We can't grow them here in the mountains, by my mother-in-law has one in a pot that she keeps inside her house {she will take it out during the days when it's warm}. It has done very well and when she gets lemons she usually makes a lemon meringue pie :)

Thanks for joining Roses of Inspiration. Enjoy the remainder of your week!

  5. I made lemon meringue pie last night! Yum!
I think it was last week I had a little cartoon about adding things to do your list just so you can cross them off! I must admit to being tempted, especially when I have a list that looks so empty of crossed off items!
It must get pretty cold there, if you have to bring lemons indoors!
