List For This Week

Linking today with Strangers & Pilgrims On Earth for The Art of Home-Making MondaysDarling Downs Diaries for Good Morning Mondays and The Enchanting Rose for Roses of Inspiration.

And with Porch Swing Quilts for Make-A-List Colour Monday.

Last week's list was not too bad, but very garden heavy again. I am really motivated at the moment to finish the weeding, mulching and some winter planting, so I can be as ready as possible for a big spring/summer!

Garden and homestead
  • Veggie garden - continue weeding and mulching, plant out areas as completed.
Still a lot to do! See the mulched area way, away in the distance!

  • Lay new paths in veggie garden and garden bed under apple tree. (new path in veggie garden is coming along - problem being, I have to weed as I go to clear a path for the path!)
Start of the new brick path.

  • Source native grasses for the bed near the back porch.
  • Start seeds and plant pea seeds
  • Sprout wheat grain for chickens.
Knitting, sewing, crafting
  • Three hours of hand quilting on Miss Ballerina's quilt.
  • Finish back of Shoulder Rolls jumper from November 1933 Stitchcraft. (nearly at the end of the pattern repeat and to the shaping)
  • Graph Minecraft quilt for Whirlwind's birthday, using this one as a guide.

Household
  • Inventory pantry items and determine use by dates. Meal plan accordingly, then keep pantry inventory up to date.
  • Write letters to my sponsor children.
  • Clean up clutter corner in our bedroom.
  • Make lime pickle and lime marmalade.
Indian Lime Pickle

OK, as you can see, the garden took most of the time last week! This week, I will need to spread my time around more evenly.

This week's list:

Garden and homestead
  • Veggie garden - continue weeding and mulching, plant out areas as completed.
  • Finish new path in veggie garden.
  • Source native grasses for the bed near the back porch.
  • Start seeds and plant snow pea seeds.
  • Sprout wheat grain for chickens.
  • Stack firewood.
  • Start new potato patch.
  • Plant strawberries.

Knitting, sewing, crafting
  • Three hours of hand quilting on Miss Ballerina's quilt.
  • Graph Minecraft quilt for Whirlwind's birthday, using this one as a guide.
  • Finish daffodil tea cosy.

Household
  • Inventory pantry items and determine use by dates. Meal plan accordingly, then keep pantry inventory up to date.
  • Write letters to my sponsor children.
  • Clean up clutter corner in our bedroom.
  • Make lemon and lime cordial.
  • Bulk wholefoods order.
  • Sort out and label spice jars.
  • Sort out wardrobe - pack up summer clothing, bring out winter clothing.
  • Go through bags of clothes that a friend kindly shared with my boys. Clothing always does big circles with friends and it is a great system. I hardly ever buy anything brand new but the boys have constantly got 'new' clothes!

This week's colour theme is Twinkle Twinkle - stars! So I had to do a palette of the Southern Cross constellation.

And just for interest, here is where all the stars of the Southern Cross line up on our Australian flag.

Have a busy, productive week, everyone!

  1. Hey Jayne, sounds like you have lots on. Where do you order your bulk food from?? Thanks for sharing at Good Morning Mondays. Blessings

    1. I order from Honest To Goodness, mainly for things like nuts and spices that are super expensive in the supermarket (and the packets are too small for my family!) If you order over $500 in one go, you can register to get the wholesale price. So I order once or twice a year. I have also used Santos Organics. I don't buy cheaper, heavier items as the postage is a real problem! So I am always on the search for more local food. I know there is a man in Border Town who sells whole wheat but I haven't looked into it further yet. I'd love to hear any that you know of.

  2. I am feeling extraordinarily productive at the moment. I mopped my floors for the first time in I-don't-remember-how-long. That chore just never makes it to the top of the urgent list of things to be done. I'm working my way up to cleaning the kids' bathroom…because there are scary things under the claw foot bath. Courage!!

    1. I agree - mopping the floors is way down my list too! I think it is because they only look clean for about a second and a half!
A claw foot bath - how gorgeous! One of those has always been on my wish list, along with either a sunshine yellow or cherry red AGA or Rayburn. Please don't tell me you have one of those too, or I will be coming to live at your house!

  4. it's all looking fantastic! oh how I wish I could make lists, but I always end up forgetting them.
i feel too obligated if I make a list and end up feeling awful if I don't get round to something. daft isn't it? maybe i can add it as something to work on for my goals for the year haha :)

it's only June, can I ask why you are bringing out your winter clothing? xxx

    1. I must admit I can feel guilty about my lists if I don't do a lot of the things on there. But it still helps me, so I keep trying!
I am in Australia, so winter here now!

  5. Oh, I am a huge lover of lists and yours looks great. I like having a plan and then at the end of the day seeing all those items crossed off.
    Have a great week.

  7. Your lists always inspire me! And your palette is gorgeous - love those plummy purples. And thank you for the lesson on the Australian flag. I never knew. Well, I knew the Union Jack part, but not the Southern Cross part. Love learning new things!

    1. Thanks! I must admit to not knowing that about our flag for a long time. I knew that our flag was based on the Southern Cross but didn't know that the stars actually lined up with the constellation positions. It made perfect sense once I read it somewhere as why else would they be placed in that pattern?! Have a great week and keep well.

  8. Jayne your lists are so good! I don't accomplish half of what you plan to do but I guess I will get there with time. For now I am working on just getting on top of the house and cleaning. When everything is in it's place I'll find it easier I'm sure.

    1. Thanks! Generally don't accomplish any near the whole list but it gives me something to aim for. Once I add these lists to my cleaning schedule (which I blogged about earlier in the year), it is probably way too much to accomplish! If only I didn't need to sleep!

    1. It is yum, but so spicy that you literally cannot eat it for six months until it has mellowed quite a bit! I will post the recipe sometime in the next week.
