New on the Needles - Girl On Fire Shawl

Linking today with Ginny for Yarn Along.

It was a beautiful misty winter morning here.

Chicken pens

You can just see one of my sheep!

Oak trees have nearly lost all their leaves

Naughty, naughty me, I know - imagine starting a new project when you still have that wretched wonderful Shoulders jumper on the go. Who would do such a thing?!
Well, me for one. I need a break from the Shoulders jumper.
I do love you still, jumper, and I promise I will not abandon you entirely. I just need to spend some time with another stitch pattern and different yarn for a while.

So my Knit Crate monthly subscription for May arrived. And this is what it was:

The subscriptions are a lucky dip - you cannot choose which colourway you will receive. So I was super happy to receive the Girl On Fire colourway (which is the one the shawl is pictured in and at the top left). I am a big Hunger Games fan, so pretty keen to knit my own Girl On Fire shawl!
The Carnaby Street Collection pattern book that came this month has some fantastic, colourful knits. Love these fingerless mitts!

Just need to wind the yarn into balls and I'm ready to go!

Love the colour gradients

And a reveal from last week - the daffodil tea cosy is finished! I love, love, love it! I am not using it yet as it is going in an exhibition for July/August, but I will have it back just in time for spring. And I am pretty happy that all the yarn was from stash.

I am almost ashamed to show my reading for this week! An Australian romance! I just picked it up as a quick, no think type of read. But as most of these books do, it grabbed me and I just had to know what happened - unresolved teenage romance, main character finding out her father is not her father and having to find her real father, just the usual plot lines! Sometimes though you just need an easy read!

This week I also re-watched one of my favourite quirky Australian movies, Danny Deckchair. After I saw it for the first time, I found out it is actually based on a true story.

The movie belongs to that genre of quirky Australian comedy movies that began with Muriel's WeddingThe Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and The Castle. All great movies, if you can find them somewhere.
But Danny Deckchair is my favourite!

And speaking of Australian movies, cannot wait until The Dressmaker comes out. October 22nd! The movie was filmed near here and those 1950s fashions - yay!

Do you have a favourite quirky movie? Or was a movie filmed in your area? I am always after movies to watch while knitting!

  1. love Priscilla, Queen of The Desert. The title of the shawl reminds me of an Alicia Keys song.

    1. Thanks! Yes, I am so happy I got that colourway, as secretly I think the others are a bit wishy-washy.

  5. Oh your tea cozy- so very sweet! Now I want to hunt down some of those movies, which I have never heard of! Many movies were filmed in the Pacific Northwest, especially in Vancouver BC. I always love driving by the houseboats where Sleepless in Seattle was filmed when we go back home again!

  6. Your tea cosy work out great. It'll be a good reminder in August that spring is just around the corner. In year 7 at school I read Gone with the wind and afterwards got a copy of the film. I watched that movie I don't know how many times along with Anne of Green Gables and Pride and Prejudice.

    1. I own Gone With The Wind on DVD and never get tired of watching it - just wonderful! I first read the book at about the same age.

  7. Your misty morning scene makes me feel grateful to be living simply. Thanks for the heads up on the movie Dressmaker. Bit exciting to have a movie made in your area. I refuse to watch the movie made in my area, "Jindabyne" as it's too dark and depressing. I don't recommend it for knitting.

    1. Oh yes, that was a depressing movie. But I love Jindabyne! I remember staying in a tent at the caravan park near the lake in the middle of winter and it was freezing! Gorgeous area - I have always wanted to live near snow mountains. We were looking at Bright, Mt Beauty area in Vic. One day!!

    1. I love autumn colours best, so was really happy to get these ones. I had to drive to town in that fog, could hardly see! But it looked beautiful.

  10. Oh, there's nothing wrong with casting on a new project! Those other knits should know who is in charge, right? :) Jayne, that tea cosy is just adorable! I've never knit one, but yours is enough to inspire me to do so. I'll be watching to see if The Dressmaker finds its way to our town...looks good!

    1. Thanks! I am definitely in the swing of tea cosies now and want to cast on another one. But that would just be too many projects going at once, wouldn't it?! Can't be too crazy!
