The Shoulder Rolls Have It!

I have decided to knit the 'shoulder roll' jumper from the November 1933 issue of Stitchcraft.

The yarn is on order from Bendigo Woollen Mills and once it arrives, I will knit the gauge swatch and re-size the pattern per the re-sizing instructions I posted about earlier. Here is the link again.

So for now, I will share some more pages from this lovely issue.

I love this pattern, called Fir Tree.
And imagine, a whole book about mending! I would love to get hold of a copy of The Art and Practice of Mending.

Winter and embroidery sounds fine to me! A cup of tea, a warm fire and some craft work sounds like the perfect rainy winter's day.

And some of the homewares featured in this issue.

A knitted rug

I love blackwork and Assisi work

I like the embroidered bag.
And if you fancy some 1933 pudding recipes, here they are! We are heading into cold weather, and we are having pudding or dessert every night now. So I am going to give some of these recipes a try. Coconut and Orange Pudding and the pictured Brown Sponge Pudding both sound delicious.

Readers, please let me know if you would like further information. Maybe you would like to make one of the puddings or knitting patterns and you can't quite read the photo. Pop me a note in the Comments!

Have a lovely week and next time we will be moving to 1934!
So get ready for lots of historical info. This is a particular interesting era, looking back, as we can see the world was, unfortunately, heading for war and there did not seem to be a solution to head it off.

  1. That shoulder roll jumper pattern looks a good pattern to try. Lovely seeing the cushions rug and embroidery from that era! The puddings look tempting too!

    1. Thanks for visiting! The yarn I ordered for the jumper has arrived so I will be starting it this week, once I attempt to re-size. I've never done that before, so it is a challenge.

  2. I love the Rug for the Nursery! So sweet.

I'm just itching for you to get your pottery order. The other one I mailed to Australia the same day hasn't arrived yet either and it's driving me crazy. I want to make sure they arrive safely.

    1. I will let you know as soon as it arrives. I have had things take 12 weeks, so not worried yet! I just can't wait to see it!

  3. Oh my goodness those vintage books are filled with glorious pretties. You won't ever be bored browsing through them. The shoulder roll jumper looks very cool. A little embroidery in front of the fire sounds like the best plan.....'tis raining cats and dogs down here!

    1. They sure are! I remember browsing through them when I was a girl and I have never stopped loving them! Winter is surely set in now - we are having the drizzly all day long rain at the moment. I love it!

    1. Thank you - I hope it will all work out as adjusting the pattern is pretty daunting. It is always good to challenge yourself though!
