Yarn Along

HEEELLOOO! Edit to this post needed! Why did I have in my head that Yarn Along was on a Monday?! I will link this to last week's post!

Oh no, the Linky has expired from last week, so this will have to be early for this week! And next week I will have my head on straight!

Time for (not on a) Monday Yarn Along with Ginny at Small Things; and I have to say first, this post from Ginny had me in stitches yesterday. I couldn't stop laughing every time I looked at it! My girls thought I was mad (they often think that though; I'm kinda used to it!)

So on to Yarn Along.
At the moment, I am reading The Pioneers by Katharine Susannah Prichard. I love books about pioneers and I hadn't read this one for a while - so long that I find it is like reading it for the first time. I am only up to Chapter 5 but really enjoying it. I find I like books and movies in which not much happens; by this I mean just normal domestic life happens rather than non-stop action. I loved The Tree of Man by Patrick White, a novel about a couple and their very ordinary lives.

Favourite quote so far (from Chapter 5): 'Mary did everything in a serene, methodical way, going from one task to another as though she were happy in each, and in no hurry to be done with it.'
Exactly what we all should be attempting to achieve in our daily lives. I am still struggling with hurrying through tasks in order to get everything done.
And this quote is from a part in the book where Mary's husband has had to go to town for supplies (town of course in those days being a 5 or 6 day round trip) and has left her and the baby alone in the bush, with a gun and a warning against bushrangers and 'natives'. I don't know how serene I would be! It amazes me what those women achieved.

I am knitting the famous Pebble vest for Cuddlepie. I must be the only person in the world who hasn't knitted this yet! I am knitting this adjusted version to make it bigger. The yarn is Patons Jet, which is 70% wool and 30% alpaca. As part of my stash busting resolution, this all came from my stash. I remember buying it when we lived in Albany, Western Australia, and as we moved from there 4 years ago, it has been hanging around for a while. It was on super sale at KMart so I grabbed whatever colours they had. But I think they go well together.

    1. I am finding it super easy to knit up, so we may end up with a few. Especially as I see on Ravelry there are people who have already upsized the pattern for me, so I can make it for the bigger boys without having to work it out for myself!
