A Trip Down Memory Lane

Joining Ginny today at Small Things for Yarn Along.

I do love seeing what everyone else is knitting and reading. Although it means I then end up adding heaps more patterns to Ravelry, and filling up my library hold list again!

This week I have been taking a little trip down memory lane and reading some of my older blog posts. I decided to add labels to all my posts to make it all a bit more organised and so started to read them.

Isn't it funny how you forget some of the little things? So many lovely memories of when I was able to homeschool the boys - bittersweet now, but happy memories nonetheless.
And I was reminded of some recipes I made that I should do again, some crafting ideas and some books I would really love to re-read.
Also reminded of just how slack I can be sometimes when it comes to finishing projects! Just take a look at this!

This blog post from February 2012 includes a Pebble vest being modelled by Cuddlepie. I purposely made it a bit big so it would fit him for a while (or so I thought!)

Then some of you may remember seeing this blog post from February 2015. Hmmm - apparently I needed three years to find some buttons!

But this is what I mean by the memories - just look at those photos! It sounds so cliche when you say they grow up so fast. But they really, really do!

At least the Colin vest is finished, buttons and all!

Not a huge amount of room for growing though. Still, it will fit him for this autumn and maybe into winter. I really love it. Maybe next time, I would just do buttons on one shoulder. Depends on whether you like things symmetrical or not.

Even the scraps are pretty!

I started knitting the Scarf In A Scarf last night. Short rows with garter stitch - perfect TV knitting! Tonight is My Fair Lady, I think. Someone commented about Doris Day as well, so maybe my next movie collection will have to be Doris Day! Who else likes classic movies? What are your favourites?

I have started reading The Little Women Letters. Quite enjoying it - very light, fun reading.
It is quite funny that the three great-great-granddaughters of Jo March roll their eyes whenever their mother starts talking about Grandma Jo. I so love the Marches that it is almost terrible to hear these characters saying how they are sick of hearing about how wonderful Jo was!

This is one of the characters when a friend asked her who Grandma Jo was.

"'I can't believe I haven't told you about Grandma Jo,' said Lulu. 'We hear of no one else. Night and day, winter and summer, year after year after year. We beg on our bended knees, we implore her through gnashing teeth, Mother, we say, enough about Grandma Jo. But does Mom listen? Noooo.'"

I think I actually gasped when I read this!
But Lulu is the one most like Jo, who finds her letters, and discovers Grandma Jo is a different person to the perfect wife and mother she was expecting.

    1. Thanks! It took quite a few photos before I could get him to stop 'smiling' for the camera! His smiling is pretty scary looking!

  4. Hey these things take time - button choosing can be difficult! I think most of us have "those projects" in our knitting baskets that take a while to complete. I love the yarn you are using for the scarf.

    1. I think it just got buried in other projects - and we moved house twice in that period. I always find projects get misplaced temporarily when we move.

  5. The vests are so cute. And I love the scarf pattern you're knitting. I will have to read the book you shared as I love the older classics; whether books or movies.

  6. I so agree about reading the yarn along and discovering that you need to read this book or work on such and such a pattern next. Or right now.

Your knitting is lovely, and I'm glad you're getting to enjoy the bittersweet trip down memory lane.

  7. I've always found it fun to make clothing for little ones. It's my favorite thing to do. I can't knit very well but I can crochet. I've enjoyed your memory lane.

  10. I love this post! I have come to accept that I will likely never knits through or read through all of the wonderful Yarn Along suggestions that I love in this lifetime! Although, having said that, I really must look up The Little Women Letters. I love Little Women! *hugs* :)

    1. I am really enjoying the book for a fun light read. I know, it is sad to think there are so many patterns and books that we will never get to! When I was a little girl, my goal was to read every book in the library - have realised this is impossible! I am still trying to catch up on the Man Booker prize lists from years ago!

  13. I have such mixed feelings about books that riff on classics. They can be great fun -- or they can be disappointing. You just don't know until you read one.
They do grow quickly, cliche as it is. And yours is still so young. I wish I could have a few moments with my boy from that age!

    1. That is true - some of those books can just be really annoying and badly done. But I guess I approach them not expecting much.
He is my littlest baby - my oldest daughter is expecting a baby herself, so yay, more baby knitting and cuddles to come!

I loved Little Women when I was younger. I'm tempted to go back and to read them again. I also loved Eight Cousins - I've wanted wicker furniture in my house ever since I read that!

  16. I love the colour of your scarf, I am a big blue yarn fan especially the variegated kind:)
Sorry, I can't profess to be a classics fan, although I do love Shakespeare. As for oldie movies, I have a couple of old movies that I appreciate but I think the oldest would have to be The Wizard of Oz.
